Description
Vehicle Specific Speed Limiter for Volvo XC60 2013-2017
What’s included in the box:
- Speed Limiter computer
- Computer wiring loom – for power and vehicle speed pulse, brake switch, clutch switch.
- T-Harness – plug in connection to the throttle pedal
What’s included in the box:
- Speed Limiter computer: This computer is pre-programmed specifically for your vehicle, ensuring compatibility and optimal performance.
- Computer wiring loom: This wiring loom provides power to the speed limiter computer and connects to your vehicle’s speed pulse, brake switch, or CANBUS connection. It ensures seamless integration of the speed limiter system with your vehicle’s existing electronics.
- T-Harness: The T-harness is a plug-in connection to the throttle pedal. It allows the speed limiter system to control the throttle and prevents over speeding for a comfortable and stress-free driving experience.
General installation process
The installation process for a speed limiter system usually takes around 1-2 hours, depending on the make, model, and year of the vehicle. Some vehicles may require more time due to physical and electronic accessibility issues.
To install the system, you’ll need to remove the knee-trim to access the area under the dashboard. You’ll then need to use soldered joints to connect the +15 and CANBUS connections. Unplug the throttle pedal connector and place the T-harness inline. Connect the other end of the T-harness to the cruise computer. Once the hardware installation is complete, temporarily install the setup module to the wiring loom and complete the setup procedure. The information needed to communicate with the vehicle is pre-installed by Conrad Anderson, and the setup procedure allows the speed limiter to react to the vehicle speed via the throttle pedal interface.
The static setup procedure for speed limiter installation requires a single operation: The pedal setup involves calibrating the speed limiter to learn the throttle pedal signals of the specific vehicle. This is done by pressing the set button on the command module and then gradually pressing down on the throttle pedal until it reaches its maximum position. The speed limiter then learns the range of signals from the pedal and stores them for limiting the vehicle speed.
After completing the pedal setup, it is recommended to take the vehicle on a short drive to test the speed limiter and ensure that it is working correctly.
Will the aftermarket speed limiter affect my vehicle warranty?
No. Conrad Anderson supplies and installs speed limiters for most of the main dealerships in the UK, covering the vast majority of vehicle manufacturers. We recommend that the installation is completed by an auto electrician just to put the installation beyond question. Any issue believed to be linked to the speed limiter installation can be proved one way or the other by removing the fuse from the main cruise computer wiring loom and removing the T-Harness from the pedal.
Tools required for installation
- Soldering iron & Solder
- Multimeters
- Side cutters
- Wire strippers
- Specialist torx and other bits usually required to remove vehicle trim.
- Knife
- General screwdrivers and spanners
- Work lamp
Skills required
Installing a speed limiter is very similar to installing a vehicle alarm system. See the general installation process above for an idea of what is involved – the main requirements are:
- Remove & Refit vehicle trim
- Soldering electrical joints
- Basic 12v electrics – Using voltage meters to locate 12v switching wires
- Routing cables away from moving parts
Vehicle Changeover year
Vehicles manufactured or registered around a changeover year will need to be looked at in detail to make sure the correct version of the speed limiter is selected. If your vehicle is 2007 and listed in our website product description as 2007-2011, there could be a difference in the specification – this could be down to the following possibilities:
- A 2007 registered vehicle could be a 2006 (or earlier) build year.
- Vehicle manufacturers sometimes use ‘hybrid’ throttle pedal solutions between model changes, the vehicle may look the same but have different throttle pedal connections.
To check which speed limiter is correct, look at the throttle pedal connection on the vehicle and compare it with the T-Harness connections on the product photo above.
